RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTS

In TREMOLAT, there is a wonderful Bistrot “Bistrotd’en face” which serves delicious local cuisine such as Magret de Canard (Breast of Duck) – Last time I was there the sauce over the duck was made from Cepes (mushrooms) and chestnuts – It was delicious. My sons loved the steak and and chocolate mousse.

The Pizzeria – is wonderful for great pizzas and pastas. They offer other meals too, it is well priced.

The restaurant at the Vieux Logis- The hotel in the village centre. This restaurant holds a Michelin star for its cuisine. The chef – Vincent Arnould – in 2007 was a winner of the prestigious MeillerOuvrier de France. Vincent believes in treating to to a feast for your eyes and your taste buds. If you would like a really special experience – Book either the Tapas Lunch for EUR 42 pp, Menu du Marche for EUR 45 pp(evening) or Caprice Gourmand for EUR 95 pp. They also offer a A la Carte menu. Visit their website:  www.vieux-logis.com

LES TRUFFIERS – An Auberge (Country restaurant) – Offers typical home cooked Perigord fare at reasonable prices in a wonderful farm style environment. Yannik (the owner/chef) welcomes you and will treat you like royalty. Our guests have loved visiting the restaurant.  The décor very unusual. Take the D30 from the village towards St Alvere – after 2km turn left and follow the signs.

IN THE VILLAGE CENTRE – For daily supplies.
Just off the village square  is a wonderful Boulangerie (Bakery) where you can buy your morning croissants and bread in the morning. There is also a small grocery store which caters for most needs – especially when you forgotten to buy the most simple thing.

NEARBY:  LE BUGUE: (15 km East) has 2 large supermarkets (Intermache), lovely shops and is a great village to wander around. It also has a good medical centre.  (Doctors are happy to do home visits at a reasonable cost). There are also a number of ATMs.

There is a great wine boutique  – “ Chai Monique” which serves a  wonderful home cooked meal – You will be able to taste some delicious wines of the area.You will find great restaurants in Le Bugue,  and a Chocolatier! We had a lovely meal at the restaurant L’Abreuvior which was superb!

LALINDE: (14 km West) has a great Intermache, gorgeous shops, two ATM’s and a couple of simple café type restaurants.

LIMEUIL: (5 km through the back fields) Limeuil is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France see www.les-plus-beaux-villages-de-france.org. There is a lovely restaurant – Le Chai situated at the old port of the Gabarres (The river boats). We have been there a couple of times and really enjoyed a good meal.

SARLAT–LA- CANEDA:  (Approximately 20 km from our cottage) “Sarlat” (as it is known) is the capital of the PerigordNoir is such a special place to visit. There are a large number of restaurants in the area. We can recommend two we have had fabulous meals at Restaurant Le Grand Bleu www.legrandbleu.eu and LaGabarre www.restaurantlagabarre.com.

The village of Sarlat is one of the most charming villages in France, with narrow medieval  streets, gothic and renaissance hotels and a 13th century Benedictine abbey. There have been so many films made here which is not surprising as the village itself is so perfect.

Every Saturday morning all year-round,Sarlat becomes a bustling marketplace. In summer the  farmers sell their locally produced seasonal vegetables, foiegras, sausages, mushrooms,  fruits and berries, goat cheeses, walnuts and walnut products such as honeyed  walnuts and cakes.  Lovely fresh herbs, spices, olives, local wines such as Bergerac and Monbazillac sweet wines and spirits. Look for the regional cheeses, chèvre, le cabécou de Rocamadourwhiare small round, mold-ripened goat cheese from nearby towns. Pork is equally as important in the culinary world of the Dordogne region as are duck and geese products . There is usually a Pork Butcher at the market offering a variety of  delicioustypes of sausage (saucisson) to sample. I love the aged, semi-hard cow’s milk cheese with walnuts.  It is delicious shaved into thin slivers served with a delicious sweet wine as an apéritif. If visiting in summer, it is a good idea to arrive early at the market to beat the crowds.
